Janine has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Queensland. She has more than 25 years’ experience in the resources industry, encompassing executive management, consulting, technical and production roles, across base metals, uranium, precious metals and industrial minerals. Starting her professional career as a Plant Metallurgist at Mount Isa Mines, Janine worked as a Project Metallurgist with WMC (later BHP), followed by a 10-year stint with CRL, RGC and Iluka Resources at various locations as Senior and later Principal Metallurgist. This time in mineral sands included the commissioning of multiple wet concentrators, dry mill start-ups, feasibility studies and construction phases.
Janine then moved to Adelaide to take on the role of General Manager of the Minerals and Industrial Division of Amdel (now Bureau Veritas), providing mineral testing services (mineral processing, geoanalytical, mineralogical and materials testing) to the mining industry (with key clients including BHP, Rio Tinto, SIMEC, Glencore, FMG, Santos and OZ Minerals).
In 2009 Janine established a consulting business, undertaking due diligence work, desktop reviews, independent audits and at various times acting as an expert witness in the field of mineral sands processing and tailings management.
Janine has served on the AusIMM Adelaide Branch Committee for the past 13 years in a variety of leadership roles including Branch Chair, Student Chapter liaison and as a member of the EEF Scholarship Interview Panel. She has also coordinated an informal mentoring program over a number of years for Adelaide-based students studying minerals related courses.
In addition to her role as an AusIMM Director for the past 6 years, Janine has Chaired the Policy and Advocacy Committee since 2014 and served on a variety of other committees and task forces including numerous AusIMM conference organizing committees, including International Uranium since 2007.
Janine believes the strength of AusIMM lies in the diversity of multidisciplinary membership and geographical locations, including the regional branches and specialty societies. She is a keen ambassador for the AusIMM upholding itself as ‘the trusted voice’, for re-establishing the relevance of AusIMM to all industry professionals and continuing the work already underway via AusIMM’s Future Directions strategy.
