James Morrison was Head of Barclays Natural Resource Investments (BNRI) in Australia from 2009 to 2011. At that time BNRI had $1.8 billion of capital committed to 16 portfolio companies. During that time James was involved in originating and worked with the management teams in a number of portfolio investments including:
Founding Director Hydra Energy ($75m commitment); INR Energy, assessing new opportunities in Australia, Mongolia & Mozambique (sold to Cliffs Natural Resources for $750m representing a 3.5x MOIC); Investment Committee member of the Global Dynasty Natural Resources Private Equity Fund. BNRI is a co-General Partner (GP) of this Korean fund.
James was at Barclays Capital from 2000 – 2008, during where he was Head of Commodities Sales in Asia and Australia and in 2007 was awarded the “Risk Australia” #1 metals award. He was also responsible for the establishment and oversight of Hong Kong and Shanghai based Bayin Resource Co, Ltd, a company specialising in physical metals trading in China. While based in London, he was also on the membership committee of the London Bullion Market Association.
Prior to Barclays, James worked for Rabobank, UBS and Rothschild.
